Latest Announcements

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

The Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier (IOST) shares a message from a member of the community recovering from a tragedy, we urge the community to keep the brother and his family in mind during these difficult times.

https://gofund.me/2c3dcb31c

“Help Us Recover from a Devastating Fire

On February 9th, around 1:30–2:00 PM, my wife and I received a phone call that no homeowner ever wants to receive: my brother called to tell us that our home was on fire.

At the time, we were overseas so my wife could spend time with her family after not seeing them for a long time. Hearing that your home is burning while being thousands of miles away and unable to do anything is a feeling I would not wish on anyone. We had tenants living in the home at the time to help cover expenses while I was unable to work. They were a hardworking family with two young children who always paid their rent and took care of the home. The fire department later determined that the fire was accidental, but the damage left behind was devastating.

After returning home two weeks ago, I contacted my insurance provider, Broome County Co-Operative Insurance Company, hoping they would help cover the damage. Unfortunately, I was told that my policy did not include the type of coverage needed for a home with tenants living in it. I also reached out to my local insurance agent, who tried contacting them again on my behalf, but I was told there was nothing more they could do….”

Tonight, Tuesday, March 17th, is a night of immense spiritual significance for the IOST. As we complete the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, we invite you to join us for a night of Barakah, community appreciation, and a vital fundraiser for our Masjid’s future.

🤲 The Sunnah of the Completion (Khatm)
We find a beautiful tradition in the practice of the Sahaba. It is reported that Anas ibn Malik (RA), whenever he was about to complete the Qur’an, would gather his entire family and make a long, heartfelt Dua, as he knew that mercy descends and supplications are answered at the moment of completion. Join us as we follow this tradition, gathering our community “family” to seek Allah’s mercy together.

🕒 Tonight’s Itinerary
8:45 PM – Isha Prayer
9:00 PM – Masjid Operations Fundraising: A brief 30-minute session to invest in your community.
9:30 PM – Taraweeh & Khatmul Qur’an: The final recitation and Grand Completion Dua.
Following Dua – Volunteer Appreciation & Community Refreshments.

💰 Sustaining Our Home: The “Two-Hour” Challenge
– Our Masjid relies 100% on local community support—no outside organizations fund our daily operations.
– Our Request: We are asking every working member of our community to donate the equivalent of just 1 to 2 hours of your monthly earnings as a recurring monthly donation. By giving what you make in just two hours each month, you ensure IOST stays open, heated, and active for our children and families all year long.
– 🔗 Can’t make it in person? Donate here: https://msjd.co/iostmasjidfundraiser

🥣 Community Potluck & Refreshments
To celebrate, we are hosting a community social.
– Bring a Dish: We ask every person/family to please prepare and bring a dish or sweets to share so we have plenty for everyone!
– Sunnah of Sweets: It is a beautiful tradition to share sweets during times of religious joy and milestone completions to foster love and gratitude.

🎥 Watch Live From Home
If you cannot join us physically, please do not miss out on the Barakah of the Khatm and the Grand Dua.

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadan in a manner in which he did not strive at any other time.” (Muslim)

The most blessed nights of the year are upon us! Our program at the Islamic Organization of Southern Tier is designed to support you through all ten nights, with a focus on the high-virtue Odd Nights.

✨ The Search for Laylatul Qadr

📍 25th Night: Friday, March 13

Join us every single night for:
🔹 1:00 AM – Salat-ut-Tasbih & Dua

🌙 THE FINISH LINE IS HERE: THE LAST 10 NIGHTS OF RAMADAN START TONIGHT 🌙

Please be advised that Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 AM tonight (Sunday, March 8). As we “Spring Forward,” there are two critical changes for our Ramadan routine at IOST:

⚠️ 1. CAUTION: Suhoor & Fajr Timing
Because the clocks move forward by one hour tonight, Suhoor will end an hour later on the clock tomorrow morning.
Please double-check your alarms! Ensure you are looking at the “New Time” (EDT) when preparing your Suhoor so you don’t stop eating an hour earlier than necessary or, more importantly, miss the cutoff.

🌙 2. NEW Isha & Taraweeh Schedule
To better accommodate the community for the rest of the month, Isha Prayer will now be at 8:45 PM for the remainder of Ramadan. —

🕌 Updated Daily Prayer Timings (Starting Sunday)
Fajr: 5:48 AM
Dhuhr: 1:30 PM
Asr: 5:00 PM
Maghrib: 7:07 PM
Isha: 8:45 PM 📌 (Fixed for the rest of Ramadan)

🕌 Jumu’ah Timings
1st Jumu’ah: Khutbah @ 1:30 PM | Salah @ 1:55 PM
2nd Jumu’ah: Khutbah @ 2:30 PM | Salah @ 2:55 PM
