Open Position: Assistant Imam

Overview of Assistant Imam Position at IOST:

The Islamic Organization of the Southern is an established, nonprofit 501c3, organization serving the needs of Muslims in the Greater Binghamton Area.  We are currently seeking applicants to fulfill the opening of Assistant Imam at IOST. The Assistant Imam is expected to assist the Imam in leading

religious practices; establish and promote educational and extracurricular programs for adults and youth; the establishment of a unified Muslim community welcoming to all Muslims from different backgrounds and cultures. The Assistant Imam will report to the Board of Trustees.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Islamic Studies, or a related field, from an accredited higher education institution
  • Fluency in English, and proficiency in Arabic
  • Essential knowledge of Islamic Shariah
  • Memorization of the entire Qur’an with good recitation skills
  • Ability to interact with and relate to youth
  • Ability to work with people of different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ability to teach Qur’an and religion, both to Muslims and non-Muslims

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily prayers at the Masjid, when needed.
  • Give the Khutbah and lead prayer for Jumu’ah, when needed.  
  • Provide community services, as needed.  These would include funerals, marriages and divorces, youth and family counseling
  • Provide Quran and Hadith studies, Seerah and Fiqh lessons, and other Islamic topics to increase knowledge and provide for spiritual growth of community members
  • Teach in After-School Qur’an and Islamic Studies program for children
  • Develop and implement educational programs and extracurricular programs for new Muslims and youth

Experience:

  • One to two years, post graduation. Candidates with internship experience will also be considered. 

 

Compensation: The total compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected individual.

IOST is seeking a full-time female Hifdh Instructor to teach the Qur’an to young girls in our community, guiding them toward becoming Hafidhas.
