Exclusively for Muslim teams from NY Masjids and Islamic centers, our goal is to unite communities through the spirit of basketball, promoting teamwork and brotherhood. The Minaret Cup 2025 challenges Masjid teams to showcase their skills on the court, building brotherhood and unity through spirited basketball rivalry. How It Works Rules & Format Game Length: Two 10-minute running-time halves. Clock Stops: Only during timeouts and the final 2 minutes of the 2nd half. Fouls: Players are disqualified at 5 personal fouls. Timeouts: One timeout per half, per team. Overtime: 5-minute OT, then 3-minute periods until a winner is decided. Islamic Considerations Prayer: A designated break will be scheduled for Asr prayer. Modesty: Modest athletic attire is required. Excessively tight or revealing clothing is discouraged. Values: Taunting, excessive celebration, and disrespect are not tolerated. Prohibitions: No gambling or betting. No profanity or abusive language. Code of Conduct Respect for All: Treat opponents, teammates, officials, and spectators with respect. Fair Play: Play honestly and by the rules. No cheating or intentional harm. The event drew over 700 attendees and featured a wide array of attractions, including rides such as bungee jumping, bounce houses, and giant slides. A lively bazaar showcased approximately 30 vendors offering diverse goods, including food (smash burgers, grilled chicken, Carvel ice cream), clothing, plants, and baked goods from local bakeries. Real estate businesses also participated. Unique offerings included free haircuts. The event was made possible by the dedication of 30 volunteers who assisted with setup and cleanup, demonstrating strong community involvement. While the event resulted in a small financial loss, its primary objective was to foster community engagement, a goal that was successfully achieved through the diverse offerings and family-friendly atmosphere.
